Backblaze, a cloud backup solution with over than 400 Petabytes of storage, and more than 106,000 hard disks in operation
Their yearly announcement focuses on durability and associated hard drive failure rates for all the drive models operating in their data centers.
New for last years lineup is the 12 TB Hitachi Global Storage Technologies (HGST) ant the new 14 TB Toshiba units.
As hard drive technology matures, the overall annualized failure rate decreases to a record setting 1.25%
A certain winner for the report was the Seagate 10 TB model ST10000NM0086, being very competitive to the historical segment leader on durability: HGST.
Certainly interesting times, as hard drives face competition from falling SSD prices.
Backblaze will be presenting the official results at a webinar on Thursday January 24, 2019, 10:00 AM Pacific Time.
